CiteULike is considered a free online service to organize academic publications. It has been on the Web since October 2004 and it is the first Web-based social bookmarking tool designed specifically for the needs of scientists and scholars. Moreover, CiteULike is based on the principle of social bookmarking and its purpose is to promote and to develop the sharing of scientific references amongst researchers.
It is worth mentioning that CiteULike gives access to personal or shared bibliographies directly from the web. It allows to see what other people posted publicly, which tags they added, and how they commented and rated a paper. And, at the same time, it is possible to browse the public libraries of people with similar interest to discover interesting papers.
